LINGUA-MADRE I, 2021

Title: LINGUA-MADRE I

Year:  2021

Medium: earthstone, aloe vera extract, hardware, medical shunts

Dimensions: H 22  X L 30 X 15cm   - shunt:  200 cm approx

Concept: Against the recent and escalating backdrop of increased violence against women and femicides, my intention in this series of works - is to map global contemporary feminist and archetypal icons of resistance, such as Sheela Na Gig, Penthesilea and Medusa though the creation of semi-fictional Gorgonian figures. The vessel forms are inspired by Bellarmine ‘witch jugs’ and Etruscan votive pottery, reflecting on the patriarchal role against women during the middle ages
